About us

What makes a groove!

Groove Candy delivers a unique and exciting blend of classic soul, R&B, dance and rock. This group has hit the scene with a force that no-one saw coming. Clubs are packing and word is spreading with good reason: Diana, Marci, Eric, Lonnie, Jason and Rex know how to give people a party and they do it well.

With expert musicianship all around, the band’s not-so-secret weapon is the 1-2 punch of front ladies Diana Reeves and Marcella Krupski. Each outstanding vocalists individually, they come together to show that 1+1 really can equal 3!! Harmonization flows so naturally from them that people can’t believe what their experiencing. Moving from a smooth whisper or a soulful growl that makes you stand up, dance and, sing along with the band is just what you can expect on a typical night from them.

“Top band!”, “Best I’ve heard in years!”, “The talent and music selection is unmatched, there is no one like them around!” are quotes that are repeated again and again by venue owners, festival reps and the crowd alike. Groove Candy has hit the circuit hard and fast in their short time and is dedicated to being a band their fans can love.

Diana Reeves

Vocals

Diana is a versatile singer whose musical journey began in choral and musical theater during her youth. She performed in lead roles throughout high school and at Northern Michigan University before exploring the folk music scene in Marquette, Michigan, in her twenties. After a pause to embrace motherhood, Diana returned to music with renewed energy, bringing a deep love for all genres—from the experimental sounds of Radiohead to the lush harmonies of all-female a cappella groups. Known for her passion for harmonies, she believes in the transformative power of voices blending together to create something greater than the sum of its parts. Now, as she continues to explore new musical avenues with Groove Candy, Diana is excited to sing again and help create a fun, new sound!

Marcella Krupski

Vocals

Marcella grew up in a family of singers, watching old musicals and singing harmonies at home. She has participated in school and church choirs for as long as she can remember. For the past 14 years, she’s been an enthusiastic part of Marquette’s music scene, lending her harmonies to bands like The Door Cats, Lost Dog & The Big Hustle, Wildhack, The Secret Fashions & The Palestras. She also loves collaborating with artists/friends such as Raymond Little and Troy Graham, and continues to sing backup with The Palestras. For Marcella, harmonizing isn’t just a skill—it’s pure joy. Being in a band feels like being part of a team, where voices blend to create something bigger, richer, and more magical than any one singer alone.

Eric Gort

Sax, Keys & Vocals

Eric is a music veteran of over 50 yrs. With roots in old school funk and jazz, he later went on to major in Jazz Studies at DePaul University. Over the years he’s also played and recorded rock, country and blues with many greats in the Chicago area and is excited about being able to use his original funky loves and talents with Groove Candy. Eric also performs with various jazz ensembles and composes original synthesizer works.

Lonnie Hafner

Guitar, vocals

Lonnie, a gifted self-taught guitar player, made a life-altering decision at the age of nine to devote his life to his first love: playing guitar. Born in Danville, IL, Lonnie was already playing regularly in a family band by age 12 and in the musicians union at age 15. It wasn’t long before he was the most talented guitarist in the area and in demand everywhere, using his vocal abilities as well. In later years he toured nationwide with Johnny Green & the Greenmen. Lonnie is quite the showman; don’t be surprised when you see him working up the crowd, sliding on his knees playing a crazy solo. Every gig is as fun as the last for him.

Jason Bickford

Bass

As an 80’s kid, Jason began his music career by forcing his family members to watch him lip sync Michael Jackson songs in his living room. Constantly singing along with the radio, he joined choir in junior and senior high school. It wasn’t until his early 20’s that he entered the realm of playing in bands. Always wanting to follow his father’s footsteps, he bought an old Ludwig drum set to play 90’s songs in his first band, a drum and guitar duo. Later he became fluent in guitar and bass guitar, playing and singing in mostly original material bands. He eventually found his way back to his true calling in music, the Bass. With influences in rock, funk, soul, 80’s pop, old school hip-hop, pop jazz, metal and grunge, he enjoys a lot of different music styles.

Rex Havoc

Drums

Rex, is a multi-instrumentalist who moved to the Marquette area from the East Coast 10 years ago. In addition to being a talented drummer, he is also a great bass player, keyboardist and guitar player. Music has been his passion since he was very young and was a member of popular East Coast bands including Thunder Road and Silverado with whom he also toured the country. He has performed with many talented local musicians. In Groove Candy he drives the band with his unique style of drumming and energy (and personality too) In his spare time he enjoys working in his home recording studio and working on his original music.
